Corps Directors update

We have undertaken a lot of changes, many of which are still in progress; however we are already beginning to see the fruits of these efforts.

On any given Sunday now you can enjoy the high power, high tempo exhilaration of the winter drum show, which will go public at the Chippenham guard show (coach available if you wish to come) whilst in another room you can catch the summer season opener taking shape at the hands of the brass line. Add to this the academy on Thursday nights, very much in its infancy, but already with some very keen members, and Frontline ensemble on Mondays, increasing their rehearsal schedule, there’s a lot going on!

The hope was that with multiple activities, we would get a blurring of the edges with regards who does what, already you can see this happening, with members of the ensemble now taking part in the winter drumline, members of the snare line getting involved with the ensemble, and a member of the academy agreeing to go in the pit for the summer.

With regards the summer, the brass music is being arranged, the Intro and Opener have already arrived from the states, which the brass are currently learning, (a snippet will be available on the site for you to hear soon). Lynette has agreed to arrange the pit score, and our tour dates will be published shortly, we are currently looking at the possibility of merging shows in dce, dcuk and a return to byba to create an interesting season. Due to the complications caused by the winter drumline we will look to start our season later than in previous years to reduce any time pressure involved in percussion trying to catch up.

As everyone knows the winter has not been easy, made much worse by the loss of John, something that for some time completely stopped activity, John in my opinion is utterly irreplaceable, he has left us all with a great number of very happy memories, which we must cherish, he was a parent and a committee member but most of all he was an intricate part of aurora, without hesitation we would give his time and effort, I can hardly remember an occasion that John wasn’t part of, he also had a great ease and rapport with members of all ages, he was an exceptional person.

As for the next few months, we appear to be at the beginning of something once again, it would be premature to say we have overcome all the obstacles that a year of inactivity have caused us, but nether the less we are moving forward, the brass line is now a competitive size, we have a very exciting show and our percussion will shortly prove they have not been idle since the summer! We are waiting for the end of the Winterguard season, to ascertain our guard situation, we are hoping for the return of many of our guard members, but this can not be assumed, we will however be actively seeking guard members throughout March. On that note we will be continuing to seek new members for all areas.

To finish, as always Aurora continues to need your support, whatever that may be,. If you feel you can help in any way please offer, it is always appreciated, please don’t leave it to the few!
